Firefighters Responded to 211 Calls for Service

The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department released its annual report last week, revealing that it responded to 211 calls for service during the 2024-25 fiscal year. 

These calls covered a wide range of emergencies including structure fires, brush fires, motor vehicle accidents, medical assists, hazardous conditions and false alarms, according to Fire Chief Brian Hutchins’ report.

Emergency responses consumed 1,655 staff hours, but the report showed that the hours of service went beyond emergency responses to include 1,651 hours dedicated to training and 2,195 hours of activities such as equipment maintenance, attending meetings, completing certifications and participating in community events. 

During its annual meeting August 25 the department held its election of officers for the coming year. Hutchins will continue as fire chief; first assistant chief is Matthew Ludwig; second assistant chief, Steve Hutchins; captain, Justin Zarzycki; lieutenants, Mike Listorti and Brad Funk; exterior officer, Ted Hinman; EMS captain, Ashley Allyn; president, Paul Padua; vice president, Martyn Banks; secretary, Judy Ludwig; treasurer, Angela Hutchins; trustees, Richard Byrne, Todd Miller and Ken Ludwig, and mechanics, John Hutchins and Gary Bottum.
