Work Starts at Cellular Tower Site in South Norfolk

Works started this week on an access road leading to a parcel in South Norfolk where a new cell tower will be constructed, according to First Selectman Henry Tirrell.

The Connecticut Siting Council approved construction of the tower in last October, but construction could not start until after September 30 because the site provides habitat for the eastern red bat, a special of special concern, and is within the range of the long-eared bat, an endangered species on state and federal lists.

The Route 272 corridor has little or no coverage over much of its length between Norfolk and Torrington. In October 2025, the council approved the plans of Tarpon Towers III and Cellco Partnership (doing business as Verizon Wireless) for a 186-foot tower to be located on a 40-acre parcel at 78 Goshen East Street.

Norfolk currently has four cell towers that service multiple providers.
