Library Associates’ Sale “Rehomes” 18,000 Books

The annual Norfolk Library Book Sale, sponsored by the Library Associates, “rehomed” almost 18,000 books in three days last weekend. With more than 70 volunteers contributing to its success, it was a community-wide effort that once again padded the Associates’ bank account, making it possible to underwrite special cultural programs that enrich the library’s community offerings.

A line of eager bibliophiles stretched down the street and around the corner Saturday morning, with buyers came from all over New England, New York and New Jersey.

Each year, the Library Associates collects books from private collections that are offered in the sale. All books find a new home by the end of the sale. Those that did not sell or were not given away for free were picked up on Tuesday by Bay State Books, whose mission is to redistribute them to support literacy efforts. Books were also selected for Books Through Bars, an organization that provides books to prisoners.
