Norfolk Chamber Music Festival: Folk Inspirations

The Norfolk Chamber Music Festival will feature David Shifrin on clarinet, Mark Steinberg on violin and Melvin Chen on piano at the “Folk Inspirations” concert, Friday, July 12, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Festival concerts are held at the Music Shed on the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Estate.
This concert is part of the Festival’s 2024 theme, “Charles Ives and the American Tradition.” Ives, like the other composers on this program, used the folk music of his local region in his compositions. You’ll hear Ives’ use of the hymn in his fourth violin sonata, Boccherini’s use of Spanish folk songs, Bartók’s use of Hungarian folk tunes, and Brahms’s use of Romani music.

Tickets: $70 to $35, $10 Young Adults (19-35),
Children under 19 are free.

There will be a free pre-concert conversation (open to the pubic) from 7:00 to 7:40 P.M. in the Battell Recital Hall. Join Professors from the Yale School of Music before the Friday evening concerts to learn about the weekend’s programs. Tickets for the concert will be available at the Music Shed following the conversation.
