Botelle School is awash in color as it celebrates three annual events in late October and November.
Last Wednesday, October 21, the students made their annual pilgrimage to Dennis Hill as part of National Bullying Prevention Month, where they observed Unity Day. Students and staff marched up the hill attired in the color orange, which symbolizes the message of the day: kindness, acceptance and inclusion.
The whole school gathered in front of the Unity Tree they planted four years ago to hear Principal Lauren Valentino remind them of its symbolism. “We chose this specific tree because every fall its leaves turn a bright orange,” she said.
Adi, a student, read a poem she had written about Unity Day to the other students and staff.
The next colorful event at Botelle is the annual Boo-telle Spooktacular, sponsored by the PTO, on Friday, October 30, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Underground Playground. The event features Halloween-themed games, prizes and treats. Costumes of all hues and descriptions are encouraged, and friends and family are welcome to attend.
The final event has a more serious tone. The students will once again welcome veterans to an annual Veterans Day program on Wednesday, November 11, at 10:30 a.m. in the school’s gym. All students are asked to wear red, white and blue, or any combination of those colors. Every student will take part in the assembly.
The fifth and sixth graders have sent out 90 invitations to visitors and the PTO will serve lunch to veterans and their families following the performance.
