The Norfolk Chamber Music Festival’s “American Music’s Current Generation,” will showcase the works of some of today’s most celebrated American composers, Saturday, July 27, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Music Shed on the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Estate.
The evening will feature works by Valerie Coleman, Jessie Montgomery, Christopher Theofanidis, Charles Ives and the world premiere of the Festival’s 2024 Musical Bridges commission by Vijay Iyer. Performing will be Valerie Coleman on flute, Kevin Cobb on trumpet with the Norfolk Fellows.

Musical Bridges is a multi-year project in which the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival commissions new works that place classical chamber music within a broader musical and cultural context. It is made possible through the generous support of the Desai Family Foundation.

This concert is part of the Festival’s 2024 theme, “Charles Ives and the American Tradition.” American classical music has long been indebted to the European tradition. This concert features European composers that had major influence on the American music scene.
