GMF’s Mike Zarfos, will lead a special spring walk celebrating the forest’s ephemeral wildflowers, those fleeting woodland blooms that appear for only a short time before the forest canopy leafs out and the forest floor returns to shade. The walk will take place at the GMF Chestnut Grove at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25. Participants may encounter delicate blossoms such as trout lily, bloodroot, Dutchman’s breeches, red trillium, and jack-in-the-pulpit, each adapted to take advantage of the brief window of sunlight in early spring.
This walk offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the brief but spectacular awakening of the forest floor.
