SUMMARY:Literary Book Group: "Red Sky in Morning" (2013)
DESCRIPTION:The Norfolk Library's May Book Group with Mark Scarbrough will
discuss "Red Sky in Morning" by Paul Lynch on Thursday\, May 14. Two Zoom
 sessions are offered from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.\n
\nMark writes: We move from world-building to fable\, a roller coaster of
a novel built from folklore fairy tales and a TV documentary about Duffy
’s Cut\, a 1830s railroad dig outside of Philadelphia in which a mass gr
ave of Irish immigrants has been found. This novel was Lynch’s first and
shows an astounding ambition in his talent: to fuse a political historian
with a fabulist\, to fuse an Irish tall tale with a U. S. pulp-fiction we
stern\, to meld the story of European oppression with the U. S. dream of t
he freedom run. Quite readable and visual\, RED SKY IN MORNING established
Lynch as one of the best stylists of this modern generation.\n\nIf you ar
e new to the Book Group and would like to participate in the online discus
sion\, please email Mark at markwrites@bruceandmark.com\, and he will emai
l you a formal invitation link to the online discussion group.
