Chamber Music Festival: The Dvořák Serenade

August 5th, 2017 @ 8:00 pm (Saturday)

The Dvořák Serenades

Norfolk Festival Artists and Fellows perform both of Dvořák’s Serenades — one for strings and one for winds (with cello and bass). Both are simply beautiful works of music, at the very top of the form. Proceeds from this concert will support scholarships for Norfolk Fellows and we thought what better way to celebrate that message than a concert of gorgeous music performed by our 2017 Fellows. You will be mesmerized by the melodies Dvořák incorporated in both Serenades. Dvořak’s Serenades evoke a bygone era of carriages and manners and innocence with tunes that are familiar, unabashedly bittersweet at times, and have been described as ‘light as the evening breeze, but [with] all the colorations of the sunset.’

Proceeds from this concert will support scholarships for Norfolk Festival Fellows.

The program will feature:

DVORÁK: Sonatina in G Major, Op 100
DVORÁK: Serenade in d minor for Wind Instruments, Cello and Bass, Op 44
DVORÁK: Serenade in E Major for Strings, Op 22

Ransom Wilson conductor, Harumi Rhodes violin, Atar Arad viola,
Ole Akahoshi cello, and Fellows of the Norfolk Festival
